Real Life Update
Aug. 30th, 2007 02:07 pmI'm feeling better -- I'm off the painkillers (okay, so I never was on anything other than ibuprophen, but i had a prescription for Vicodin if I needed it) and most of my scrapes are now bandage free (good -- I'm out of medical tape). I still have some nasty bruises in spots no one sees, sore ribs and arms, and a scrape on my ankle that refuses to heal. I've tried wearing sandals, so that my socks and shoes don't rub against the bandage, and I've been using the antibiotic cream. So far no dice -- it's still an angry shade of red and leaking stuff onto the bandage. -_- It's probably because no one noticed it until the day after the accident -- it was covered by my sock when I was at the hospital getting cleaned up.
Two amusing reactions to my accident:
Matt my neighbor/a post-doc I work with: *after hearing that I wasn't seriously hurt by being hit by a car* Were you a cheerleader in high school?
Ryan the Middle, a grad student: *after me noting the double take when I clarify my 'car accident' involved me being the pedestrian* You ought to say, 'you should see the car'.
(There are several postdocs named Matt, and grad students named Ryan. For added confusion, the two Matts both do work on Saturn's rings and share an office, and two of the three Ryans shared an office at one point. For eve more fun, there's a fourth Ryan in physics who is married to another grad student whose first name is the same as one of the other Ryans' last names.)
Matt also suggested, on hearing that I was interested in ancient civilizations, making a group of people in the building to study written Mayan. Which prompted my advisor to nickname us the Ancient Languages Working Group.
So, busy week, I guess.
