I am a sentimentalist

Ryan let me know that there's a contest to give an epitaph to the Mars Phoenix Lander, who is having to turn off power as the long and deadly Martian Winter sets in. Winner gets NASA stuff, plus @marsphoenix's writer will put it as the last entry.

Damn, I'm going to miss that lander -- I get sentimental over robots, even when one hasn't been given a voice. I mean, I cried when I saw Hubble deorbit simulations, and at space flicks.

NaNo tonight.

One of my favorite comic storylines ever...

Was the Something Positive Halloween 2006 story. One of the things I like about S*P is that while its cast of twenty-somethings with varying degrees of misanthropy does occasionally engage in the thing we fantasize about doing when someone pisses us off, there's a good mix of showing these characters are human, and gut punches in that showing that sometimes a snarky retort isn't going to magically make things better.

This is one of those storylines -- a mix of snarky commentary and a gut punch at the end. Plus, demon ferrets. (Which are cute -- I want one.)

It starts here. I so suggest you read through the entire story before making comments. And don't forget to read the bylines at the bottom of the comic.

Bored...

So, I saw a comment somewhere pointing out on all election maps, it was hard to get a sense of who was winning, since the West is giant stretches of wilderness (and also Republicans). So, I doodled this up -- a map scaled by electoral votes. I'm sure other maps like this exist.
