I beat Twilight Princess yesterday. Oddly enough, the first stage of the boss (read: playing tennis with energy balls and swords -- that's got to be the most annoying boss tactic ever) took forever compared to the rest of the fight -- I used all the field health-refills and two Blue Potions, and didn't resort to my Bottled Fairies in the rest of the fight.

Also, Midna is awesomesauce, but you knew that.

(There may be fanfiction sometime -- just FYI. Also subscribing to [insanejournal.com profile] yuuo's theory about how Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are essentially the two trees of possible Ocarina of Time endings. WW is what happens if you assume the gameplay is the timeline, with Adult-Link and the Awakened-Sages sealed Gannon(dorf) into the Sacred Realm/Dark World. TP is what happens if Zelda-Sage uses the Ocarina of Time to send Link back to warn Child-Zelda that opening the Temple of Time with the Spiritual Stones is exactly what Gannondorf wants, so maybe they shouldn't try anything. Eventually Gannondorf gets caught and confronted and sent through the Mirror, but a Link is seemingly not involved.)

(I do wonder about the Mirror of Twilight -- presumably it can only be turned on/off in the Light World, or sending the proto-Twili into Twilight would be useless. However, only the Twili monarch can destroy it, rather than anyone from the Light World. Maybe it's a condition of imprisonment from the Gods -- if the Twili decide they never wanted to return to the Light, then having a key to their cell would be unnecessary. They'd be securing the borders of their home, rather than locking themselves out.

On the other hand, Zant had to have a way into/out of Hyrule without either the Fused Shadows or the Mirror, or he wouldn't have split it. Since, he did seem to have the proto-Twili goals of taking over. Even if he had to do it as Ganon's underling rather than on him own. Heck, he does create those portals that Link & Midna used to hop around Hyrule (and occasionally move large things around) and he used to send things to kill me. Presumably Ganon gave him that power, which means there was another way between Light and Twilight, even if it's not one that Midna and the Twili have access to. (The Triforce of Power? ))

(Also, Zant so makes a bunch of noob mistakes in leaving Midna alive twice (or at least delivering a mortal wound and not hanging around to make sure the body stays dead), Link twice... and Zelda once. Link and Midna is especially egregious because of the twice factor -- at that point of the game, Midna had gathered a powerful artifact and Link had pretty much pushed all the Twilight out of Hyrule. He doesn't even try to kill Link, just curse him (again) when Link had already proven that he can manage in wolf form. I get the impression Zant wanted to be the smooth Big Bad of the game, but ends up just being Ganon's manic henchman in the end.

I had kinda walked away with the feeling that they'd been going one direction with the game, then about that point in time when Link gets the Master Sword, they decided to run another way.

My theory about the mirror of Twilight is that it was made from the Ogre God Mask, since I believe I've read somewhere (I can't remember where anymore, doggonit) that the Ogre God Mask was made from the same dark power as Majora's Mask.

The story in Majora's Mask says that mask was used by an ancient tribe in their hexing rituals, but the ancient ones, fearing its power, sealed it away in the darkness, never to be found. Until the Happy Mask Guy found it. Which leads me to wonder if the Majora's Mask isn't one form of the Fused Shadow, sans the piece that actually was sealed into the 'darkness' (read: the Twilight Realm).

The thing with the Twilight Mirror is that it has to be activated for it to open that portal- since it was in the Light World, obviously, nobody from the Twilight Realm could use it, since they couldn't get out of the Twilight Realm to activate it. However, if it was made from something that was the same kind of power as the Fused Shadows, then only a Twili- specifically the ruler, whom I presume to be the most powerful magic wielder, could actually destroy it.

Zant was able to get out, I think, because of a combination of the Triforce of Power (which obviously couldn't open the door by itself, or if it could, Gannondorf himself was too weak to make it do that) and Zant's power. Now, Zant was pretty darn nutty, but I did get the impression that he must've been powerful on his own, and possibly serving in the royal court. Maybe even actually up for the crown, since when he whines about not being made king and Midna replies it was because of how power-hungry he was, not because of any bloodline issue. So Zant obviously had some decent Twili-power on his own, and I was kind of under the impression that when he cursed Midna, he broke her from a lot of her power, which is why she couldn't return to her own form, but still had some power to use to get around. So I think he took some of her power, too.

However, like I said, I got the impression the writers for the game kinda changed directions mid-stride and it made for some unexplained gaps. So I try to BS to fill in those gaps. :Db

Hey, I think any direct ties to Zelda games (outside of the actual sequels) take a little BS.
