Mar. 28th, 2004 11:07 pmUC found a checklist -- How to know if your child is a Goth (and thus is on the fast track to Satanism). Now, I could run myself through that, but that would be boring, as we all know Bible thumpers don't like me and think I'm going to Hell. It's much more fun to take the msot unsuspecting character and check him out. No, not Riki, because he is obviosuly either a misguided heathen or a demonic creature sent to confuse God's true followers. The whole alien agnostic kind of throws them.
My character from my Tuesday night game is Zachery Marshall, a Catholic priest turned D&D style paladin. He is a lot of fun to play because he is both like me and not. He's like me in that we both believe highly in free will and accept just because someone is wrong about something (Zack thinks a lot of people are wrong about religion and such) does not make them wrong about everything. He's not like me in that we have very differing views on how the world works. He's also gone though a lot of evolution -- for example he's gone from refusing to allow any magic being cast on him -- a lot of fun when he's bleeding and insisting that the party divine magic user better NOT touch him with a healing spell -- to being someone who can and will cast spells himself -- he sees it as basically asking God to help someone out, and the way the D&D divine magic works, he's kind of right. Though he still sees using magic offesively as dangerous for one's soul...
My comments will be in bold
Gothic (or goth) is a very obscure and often dangerous culture that young teenagers are prone to participating in. The gothic culture leads young, susceptible minds into an imagined world of evil, darkness, and violence. Please seek immediate attention through counselling, prayer, and parental guidance to rid your child of Satan's temptations if five or more of the following are applicable to your child:
[X]-Frequently wears black clothing. Black's a very practical color -- dirt and bloodstains don't show up very well on it. That and I do bieve it is a traditonal clergy color
[ ]-Wears band and/or rock t-shirts.
[ ]-Wears excessive black eye makeup, lipstick, or nailpolish.
[ ]-Wears any odd, silver jewelry or symbols. Some of these include: reversed crosses, pentagrams, pentacles, ankhs or various other [Satanic worshipping symbols.]
[ ]-Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos.
[ ]-Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn Manson claims to be the anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)
[X]-Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically. Have you seen our adventuring party?
[ ]-Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such as: the Bible, prayer, church or sports.
[X]-Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan. Yes. Zack is very interested in vampires and demons... mostly how to kill them quickly and efficiently. And it's hard not to be interested in the occult when it tries to kill you.
[-]-Takes drugs. Aspirin... really helps those headaches. These peoples hould be more specific
[X]-Drinks alcohol. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't taking communion require wine? And what's in wine, boys and girls?
[ ]-Is suicidal and/or depressed.
[ ]-Cuts, burns or partakes in any other method of self-mutilation.
(This is a Satanic ritual that uses pain to detract from the light of God and His love. Please seek immediate attention for this at your local mental health center.)
[ ]-Complains of boredom.
[ ]-Sleeps too excessively or too little.
[X]-Is excessively awake during the night. Would volunteering for night guard duty around the camp and/or staying up late reading texts in Latin count? He does both of these
[ ]-Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.)
[ ]-Demands an unusual amount of privacy.
[X]-Spends large amounts of time alone. It's hard to read in a dead language when you have to put up with the mage making poisons, the dwelf talking to her snake, or the rest of the party's down time
[X]-Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your chid may speak to evil sprits through meditation.) Or so you can read, pray and work in peace
[-]-Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult. Not really applicable for an adult. And I think he didn't have many friends his own age as a kid
[X]-Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are but a few examples of this. Zack is part of a resistanc emovement to overthrow the current leader of Earth, who he views as a cruel, controling dictator who unfairly maligns nonhuamsn and who works with evil forces. But, yes, he is disregarding legitamate authority
[ ]-Misbehaves at school.
[ ]-Misbehaves at home.
[ ]-Eats excessively or too little.
[ ]-Eats goth-related foods. Count Dracula cereal is an example of this.
[ ]-Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)
[ ]-Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)
[ ]-Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.
[-]-Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer. He does use it, but not excessively -- computers are very useful tools, and it lets him do his work (his day job is a scholar on Latin and Greek)
[ ]-Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music.
[ ]-Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner.
[ ]-Expresses an interest in sex.
[ ]-Masturbates
[ ]-Is homosexual and/or bisexual.
[-]-Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism. He does know a lot about these, but doesn't consider them legit, though he makes distictions between relgions that tell you to kill innocent things and do other despicable acts (very bad and evil) and religions that don't (misguided)
[ ]-Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a goth".
[ ]-Claims to be a goth.
If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health center.

Zack's Score: 10 Yes, many of them were technicalities, but that just shows how stupid these things are.
