Ramblings...
Aug. 30th, 2004 06:43 pmSo, the first thing you should know is that there are two places in the textbook-selling business near UNL, the Univerity Bookstore and the Nebraska Bookstore. The University Bookstore is the official Univeristy bookstore (duh!) and can do things like charge textbooks to your student bill and preorder books for you by checking your schedule. The Nebraska Bookstore can't, but is more likely to have a used copy of a textbook. The University Bookstore is also in the Student Union, while the Nebraska Bookstore is a few blocks off campus.
Every year, the Nebraska Bookstore has a massive ad campiang around the beginning of the semester to get studnets to buy textbooks from them instead of the Univeristy Bookstore. This year, in addition to guys with signs and the usual promotional stuff, they used spray chalk all over campus to paint ads on the sidewalks.
Enter Ray. Ray is a physics student I know who writes for the Daily Nebraskan (the studnet newspaper). Ray wrote an column complaining about the Nebraska Bookstore's graffiti on the sidewalks*. Today, we found out the Nebraska Bookstore took out a full-page ad in response to that, refuting Ray and jabbing at the University Bookstore (as usual). Ray did some checking and found out that thier ad had cost over $1700. Nice. ^_^
* This is actually remarkably on-topic for our student newspaper. There is a reaosn I don't read it very often.
Classes go well. I have yet to fall asleep in one, though I think I might have looked to be dozing off in Simon's class -- I hope he isn't mad at me. And I discovered one good use for Chemistry 109. I get writing done in that class -- "The End Is Only The Beginning" is now nearly done with Chapter 2.
Our game will meet on Tuesday in Mabel Lee Hall (14th and Vine) Room 234, at 6 PM. I will hang around the Union starting about 5:30 (or whenever anyone wants to meet me). If the room is in use for class, backup plan involves the Union.
