An Interview from [livejournal.com profile] eiviiaru

THE RULES:
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

  1. Gotten any particularly hilariously poor profiles for Sea of Chaos? For who?
Surprisingly, the worse I've gotten are applications that just do the 'and the rest is history' thing on the character history. My problem is that when I ask most of these people to fill that part of their backstory in, they never get back to me.

  2. Of the roleplaying systems you've played, which do you enjoy the most? Why?
Actually, it's usually more of the game and the characters than the roleplaying system -- if the GM runs an interesting plot, I'll be interested no matter the mechanics.
As for running games myself, I prefer systems that don't have a wolrd built into them (though I've only run one game in my own wolrd -- the others were all anime world-crossing, Star Wars, or from a sourcebook). Still -- when we changed GMs for our BESM game, we could just move it from a fantasy world (Uresia -- Grave of Heaven. Good worldbook.) to a science fiction world ([livejournal.com profile] uncreativity's Donut Girls) with minimal hassle. That was nice. I also like simplicity which rules out GURPS (it is a pain in the neck to have people who don't know the system generate characters, especially with only one main book). D20 is mice because everyone knows it -- except most of my friends. Overall, I would say BESM. It is nice and flexible, though I don't really like the magic system.

  3. Do you have a favorite astronomical body? Which? Why?
Well, to look at, I have a soft spot for the Ring Nebula, as it's the first not-visible-to-the-naked-eye object I ever found by hand and Mrk 335 (a quasar), as it was the topic of my first research topic. The gas giants' moons are also cool -- I think they are some of the most intersting things in the solar system.

  4. How has it been to spend three years in the same dorm?
Actually, I moved this fall... I'm still in the same complex (so I still eat in the same dining hall), but I now have a single room on the thirteenth floor. It no longer feels like I'm living in a closet (in fact, it's probably bigger than my room at home) but when the power went out this week and I rememebred I left my history notebook in my room... that was not fun.

  5. Your thoughts on UNL in general?
It's a pretty nice place. I've developed my own little string of socail networks within the geek subculture and the Physics and Astronomy Department. It's also a very good place to be if you want to be an undergrad researcher -- the Society for Physics Students actually volunteers to help new students find departmental jobs. And the Math Department is wonderful -- I've had so many itneresting classes from them. I just wish it wasn't so damn cold in the winters.
