Basically, a thread on BRPS turned into a mess when someone (all names named in the JF post) boldly declared fanworks=raping the original author. And refused to believe that some authors might encourage fanworks or even NOT CARE.

I am half tempted to place up the following on my website.

Artists for Fanworks
We, the undersigned, are comicists, writers, RPG designers and other artists. We range from hobbyists who place work on the internet for friends and the occassional stranger, to people seeking to become published. We hereby pledge to, at the minimum, turn a blind eye to the creation of fanworks based on our original source, provided they acknowledge the original source and do not resort to tactics that violate fair use rules (i.e. using large parts from the original source, an unrealated source, or other fanworks without the express permission of the copyright holder, etc.). We recognize that the vast majority of fanworks are done out of love for the creator's work, and are not intended to be malicious, even when we find the works themselves inconsistent with the way we have things laid out.

I could even make spiffy link buttons, like all those anti-art-theft sites do.
