A story -- I don't rememebr where I heard this:

Once upon a time, a king called a wise man to his court. "I want you to make me something that will both cheer me up when I am sad and sober me when I am happy." The wise man thougth for a bit, then agreed. A weke later, he presented the king with a simple golden ring. Enscribed on it was the words "This too shall pass."

Dear Student,

The correct answer to any problem is never 'We didn't get to this problem in class, so the professor said we cold skip it.' Especially when yours is the fifth paper to be graded by me, and the first time I see that answer -- everyone else managed to do that problem right, with one exception. And especially when you are told you do not have to do the math (which I admit is the hardest bit of math you will ahve to do for this class), only read off of the graph IN THE PROBLEM.

If you were going to use this excuse, you could have at least saved it for the problem I didn't grade because the professor accidentally put it on both this and last assignment. I wasn't holding it against people who didn't want to work a problem they got right twice. I do hold it against people who think that the vague mention of something that wasn't covered means that they can get away with not doing homework.

Your Grader,
Becca Stareyes

I like discussing these things [politics, religion, current hot topics, etc.], but I think such discussions are like heavy BDSM -- you need a safe word, or people will get hurt.
