Comic Thoughts...

I have two really cool heroic things for Alri to do during the entire thing -- basically scenes where it isn't the group doing the heroics, it's all her. I don't have anything for Melody -- I did have something near the end, but I cut it in favor of showing that Riki has grown up and having him do it himself. This bugs me -- I want to show that both women are competent characters.
I suppose part of the problem is I don't know Melody's stregths as well as Alri's. Both girls know people very well. Alri is physically stronger, but is more easily distracted and more honorable -- Melody's a bastard. Melody is a talented musician, but that's a pretty useless talent.
Ther eis the mahgic angle, but that's not worth much. I hate seeing the hero's magical/fighting abilities taking the place of competence.
Part of me is now tempted to have the first one be for both girls or just Melody. It might work better if there is someone along that knows Riki better than Alri, and the main reason I was going to put Alri in the scene (she was more adapted to the desert) is weakened by the fact the scene happens at night (so, the heat/UV protection Alri has wouldn't be important and she really isn't that competent in a wilderness setting. Melody is only slightly more competent.) Putting the scene in would also strengthen the depiction of Riki and Melody's relationship -- good because that is something I need to establish, bad because it weakens the tension I was having between Melody and Alri. If the fans know which girl Riki will end up with, it weakens the storytelling.
I might have the two girls do that first scene together. I know Melody has to be in that scene now -- it ties in something I have to do later, and I think that Melody and Alri need to work out their issues.
