Okay, here's a dilemma for you. On following links, I got to a RPG book that looks very interesting -- a varient of d20 that addresses a lot of things I don't like about that system, but keeps some of the varient rules that I like (like very open-ended basic classes). And the magic/psionics system looks nice (It's akin to the system for Force Use in the Star Wars d20 system, which is skill/feat based, which, me being an old GURPS fangirl, is nice -- I think the only other magic system I really liked is the one from Slayers d20, which is rather like that anyway).
Problem is, it's romantic fantasy genre (Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, etc.). I have a sort of love-hate relationship with the genre -- I usually enjoy the worldbuilding of those books, but most of the time they tend to play things too black and white for my tastes -- the villaisn are always opressive, intolerant bastards who kick puppies in their free time, while the heroes lean on the teenaged-wish-fufillemnt side. Of course, I could take the worldbuilding and run with it, and use my own GM-ly talents to add in the greys and twists. Or just appropriate the system, tweak it, and use it for one of my own worlds. Or buy some of the company's other products that are non-world-specific (they sell a book with their psionics system in it for $16, about half the price of the core book of the system above). Decisions, decisions.
