I need to ramble more on my personal life -- I keep forgetting that some people actually care.
So, I cleaned my apartment today -- mopped, scrubbed the counters, vacuumed, and even cleaned the toilet. Thrillsville, I know. I also put up my posters in my bedroom -- I want real art (or at least, the prints artists like
neondragon sell on the Internet) for my living room, but the bedroom's all mine. The posters really help make it feel like I actually live here, and am not just visiting for the next 6 years.
Thanks to a clerk at the supermarket who was able to tell me that yes, the place does carry coconut milk, I will be trying to make curry tomorrow dinner -- hopefully it reheats well, as it will be my designated 'I came home too late to even stir fry something' meal this week. You can tell I am a grad student, as I fry a lot of foods simply because it cooks quickly. Right now I am engaged in deciding whether to eat home fries and hamburger or make a skillet dish (aka put potatoes, meat, eggs, and whatever veggies I have into a frying pan and cook).
The grad students are thinking of having a potluck every week -- a quarter of the students each week brings something to serve 4, and we all try new things. Hopefully people won't mind if most of mine are Asian and desserts. There's some enthusiasm but Barbara is wavering because she says she's a picky eater. She's a pretty good cook (based on the cookies she brought in once) and I think there will be enough for her to eat if she comes.
