Non-native speakers of fictional languages

Revising a ficbit that was mainly used to practice writing two characters. Trying to remember Darynese grammar, as one of the characters is Darynese and pretty much is not-quite-fluent in every other language she even knows. I think it's a point of stubbornness -- she doesn't care much for foreigners. Which means you can get some odd turns of phrase -- I'm trying to keep her at least grammatical, but having her avoid complicated sentences. I don't want her sounding like Shampoo from Ranma 1/2. That and if Ranma has taught me anything, it's that fen will equate poor language skills with stupidity. While Shampoo isn't always the example of smart I'd use, she is definitely cunning (if possessing of a stubborn streak... like, oh, half the cast).
