Year in Review
Dec. 31st, 2013 10:13 amLet's see if I remember what I was doing. Honestly, most of the year was a blur, since I was applying for jobs and trying to finish my dissertation. I completed it in August and defended in September. After a conference in October, I moved from Ithaca NY to my mother's house in Lincoln, Nebraska. I formally get my PhD next month, but effectively am a doctor now.
I didn't write as much as I'd have hoped. I signed up to write 75k in 2013 at
inkingitout, but made somewhere around 60k, even with academic writing included. I did do a bit of art, and a bit of fiction, and need to come up with a way to do more next year. I miss writing.
Still looking for a job. I had an interview two weeks ago with Coastal Carolina university for a lectureship (a yearly renewal position), and another one with the South Carolina's Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (which is technically a high school program). Southerners seem to find me likable, given that last year Dalton State in Georgia had me on their shortlist. Sadly, not likable enough to offer employment (or, more likely, if given a choice between me and someone with more teaching experience, they go with the person with the experience). Or else there's a lot of people who won't move to the South to teach college physics to engineers and pre-meds.
