beccastareyesSo, I finally saw the new Avatar episodes, no thanks to iTunes.
My thoughts:

-- I love how Avatar has a stable of reoccurring characters that actually show up again -- aside from Smellerbee and Longshot, most of the other characters I'd expect to see are dead, potentially dead, or part of the Northern Water Tribe... was the North Pole too far away for messengers to get there, or were they needing to secure things against Fire Navy ships up there?
-- Something bad is gonna happen to Ming (Iroh's kind guard). Either that, or she's the one that's going to smuggle him out. (ETA: Risky and stupid, but good of Iroh to hint that 'bad stuff is going down, and as a somewhat humane human being, make like Lot and get out of town')
-- I think I've given that presentation before, Sokka.
-- Azulon took his direction from Tolkien when setting up his Great Gates. I do want to know what the ropes are made of that they can burn even when spending 90 percent of their time soaked in seawater.
-- Sokka is his world's Leonardo da Vinci, except with less painting ability and an engineer that can actually turn 'an air-tight box propelled by waterbenders' into a working thing. (Sokka needs a drafting class, stat.)
-- Poor seasick Toph.
-- Zuko's gonna do something stupid, isn't he? (Or something wonderful, but also stupid).
-- Submarines, tanks... things are getting very modern on the other side now.
-- The Fire Nation has got some damn good defenses for being on the offensive for so long. Clearly the military didn't skimp on things. At the very least, this will cause people to lose their jobs.
-- I forgot how badass the hermit swampbender (Yu) is.
-- Is it just me, or has the Fire Nation actually got at least somewhat of a half-decent gender ratio -- still not parity, but not bad.
-- With Aang, I can practically hear Admiral Ackbar in the background. "It's a trap!"

-- Yay on them getting the eclipse timing correct, though 8 minutes is a very long time for a total eclipse.
-- Yay Toph! Toph is just made of equal parts bad ass and wit.
-- Boo on Fire Nation looking at the Sun. That's what smoked glass is for. Also, what the heck are the snow glasses for?
-- Azula reminds me of the old adage about a great strategist. "A good strategist finds a path to victory. A great strategist makes sure every path leads to victory.'
-- Azula is also surprisingly bad ass even as a non-bender.
-- Oh, Zuko. Less talking, more stabby. Destiny can go hang itself.
-- So, not surprised about what Ursa did. Fanon called it
-- Hooray for Zuko's lightning redirection!
-- About time the war balloons showed up.
God, I want to see the rest of the season so damn bad.
