Well, now that I'm back to Ithaca, let us continue the discussion of anime!
Day 23 - Anime you think had the best, or most intriguing art: Mushishi

The overall tone of Mushishi is one of the natural world. Basically, Ginko (the silver-haired one-eyed fellow there) is a mushishi (or mushi master), able to see the spirit-like creatures called mushi that are the most primitive form of life. Because his own presence attracts mushi, which can be a nuisance, he travels around Japan helping to ease things when mushi trouble humans (or vice versa). The clear thing about the mushi is that they aren't good or evil -- they just are, and, like any animal or plant, can be good or ill.
The art is beautiful, both in showing the wilds and villages of Japan, and in the mushi themselves. While some episodes can be creepy* and some are a bit depressing, they all are pretty.
* One of the first episodes involves a girl who has mushi living in her eyes, so darkness pours out of them when she opens them. If you have any major gross-out squicks, it's always good to check an episode guide. The vast majority of episodes stand alone, and even the ones that shed light on Ginko's backstory aren't really needed.
