Comic Work...
Jul. 18th, 2003 02:06 pmAnyone who can provide a link for pictures of clothing worn in different cultures, or a website listing non-Western last names, please e-mail me. I've been trying to come up with last names for the villains of my comic -- normally villians are last-name-only characters *points to RPG cliches* Heroes are first-name-only characters -- they might have last names, but they are mentioned only in the instruction book or once in the game. If a villain has a first name, he's gonna switch sides...
Anyway, it's hard because I want ones that match the culture I took their species from -- unlike the first names, which have become somewhat mixed from trading between cultures. That seems the most realistic way of doing it... I mean, my little brother and I have Hebrew-derived names and my sister's name is Jennifer. This isn't hard for Philandre and Delwyn (who both have last names from somewhere in the British Isles -- I looked in the Celtic and Gaelic for Philandre and in Welsh (to go with his first name) for Delwyn) and even pretty okay for Shashi (I watch far too much anime to have problems thinking of a Japanese last name). Kimiko is giving me a problem, though. The only Arabic last names I know have far to much attached to their connotations for me to use. That, and I'm a significance junkie -- her name has to have a meaning that fits her.
And the only Arabic name http://surnames.behindthename.com gave was Ahmed, which just makes me think of a character from Terry Pratchett's Jingo. So any help would be appriciated. I hate coming up with last names even more than I hate coming up with first names and costumes. Possibly combined.
