Dec. 21st, 2003 10:52 pmI got an A for my seminar! My professor liked my essay. And I sucessfully argued that the belief that homeopathy has no curative power* and the belief that it could serve a purpose in treating such things as depression and chronic pain are not mutually contradictory because of the placebo effect. Go me!
* by homeopathy, I go by the definition as it being strictly the technique of 'like cures like' -- basically one gives the pateitn a ridiculously small amount (our speaker, a practicing homeopathist, said that some of her remedies were under one part in Avogadro's number) of a substance that, if given in large amounts, will cause the same symptoms of the disease. Herbs I put a little more trust in, though I do with our government would regulate alternative medicine practices more so when you buy something like this, you know wat you get.
