Day 12 - Who had the best wedding? Magrat/Verence

Tempted to nominate Worf and Dax for this one, too. It was a pretty good wedding. But I think Magrat and Verence from Discworld have them beat. After all, there was only a symbolic attack during the ceremony.

Apologies for the art -- ended up grabbing a crop of the Josh Kirby cover for... I think Wyrd Sisters. The perils of book characters -- I can't illustrate things. Unless it's fanart*.

Anyway, so for those of you haven't Lords and Ladies, meet Magrat. She's generally considered a flake, and is the perpetually-junior witch of her coven, but she's far from dumb or magically ungifted. And meet Verence, who was a professional Fool, but, through a bizarre set of coincidences and a couple of nudges by the right people, ended up as King of Lancre. They met when Verence was just a guy with bells on, were promptly twitterpated, and Verence popped the question as King.

Also, meet the Queen of the Elves, who has more in common with the Queen of Air and Darkness than Arwen. She remembers when fairies rode and she's stick of being kept away from mortals by rings of meteoritic iron. And she has a plan -- the king and the queen are one, and the king and the land are one, so all she needs to do is marry the mortal king and no power can kick her out. And -- how handy! -- the mortal king of Lancre is getting married.

So, the elves invade on Midsummer's Night, using a play about fairies to open the way, and the Queen kidnaps Verence. Magrat is already upset after she discovered her well-meaning other witches pushed Verence into finally asking her... so she decides to do something about it. With the out of use castle armory, the colorful (and actually fictional) kingdom history, a cat and a guard with a broken arm, she kicks the elves out of the castle, and successfully fights off the glamor of the Queen, which played to Magrat's own insecurities.

Anyway, after that, the wedding still went on, even if the queen was in a suit of armor, covered in the rags of a once-wonderful (and expensive) dress. And even if the king's entire wardrobe was ruined by the invaders, except his old motley. And the best man couldn't be found, so a guest -- who happened to be an orangutan wizard -- was recruited.
