*Sighs* Delemmas, delemmas,
Aug. 17th, 2003 11:57 pmOkay, as some of you may remember, I joined a Harry Potter RPG a bit back. The RPGing itself seems to be good, but it seems like evry player has an OC who is a borderline Mary Sue. Thing is, I want to ask the mods for another character, an OC, and I DON't want her to be a borderline-Sue -- my roleplaying friends would give me a hard time.
The group has a lot of canon characters open that are basically name-drops. In other words, I could pretty much take another canon, and make up a personality and backstory.
However, I had thought of a character concept that wouldn't work for this -- the character was interested in a certain line of work, one that none of these name-dros have shown any indication. Plus, I kind of want to be the RPG's first Hufflepuff, and not very many of the canons seem inclined to it... maybe a few, but most of them have set personalities.
Well, I can at least post the OC Profile I've developed, and ask you guys to pick it apart.
Player's Name: Stareyes
E-mail: star_dolphin@hotmail.com
Character's Name: Willow Lawrence
Age/Year: 5th/15
Gender: Female
House: Hufflepuff
Why: She is basically a kind individual, who isn't exceptionally smart, but makes good grades because she works hard.
Second Choice: Gryffindor
Physical Description-
Hair: (Color, length, style) Ash-blonde, long but braided. Very fine, so tends to work it's way loose of the braid.
Eyes: Green, with glasses
Complexion: Fair, with freckles.
Build: She is very short (4'10") and thin, with an athletic build. If it wasn't for her long hair, she probably would look like one of the younger male students.
Quidditch Player: Yes.
Position Desired: Seeker
Mental Description: Willow is a sweet girl, but overeager. She has a 'hero' complex -- whenever someone is in trouble, she feels the need to save them. This is especially true for things of a medical nature, as she desires to be a Healer when she gets out of school. While she does know enough to pull off simple healing spells, more often she will try to improvise a spell, and make things worse. Consequently, she is forbidden from getting off her broom during Quidditch matches, under threat of removal form the team, as her attempts at 'sports medicine' have proven to be disruptive one too many times. Willow will also stand up to any bullying... again, not good as she is physically weak in a fight and, while she knows how to reverse a lot of the common curses students know, she isn't that good at BLOCKING them.
Willow has a fascination for complimentary medicine -- the idea of using both Muggle and magic methods on a patient. This can come across as morbid, as she often carries Muggle anatomy books she got form home around, and will read passages she finds interesting aloud.
Likes: Plants and flowers, the study of medicine and anatomy, reading, flying.
Dislikes: Bullies, when her own spells go bad, people who stereotype her for being a Hufflepuff and not a pureblood, the usual. She also dislikes overly-squeamish people. She doesn't get the appeal of pets, as she much prefers the company of people who can talk back, though she understands why someone might want an owl.
Fears: Willow is a touch claustrophobic, and she will often panic when one of her spells misfires.
Favorite Class: Herbology. She likes the study of Potions itself, but is distracted by the setting in the dungeon.
Least Favorite Class: She isn't very skilled at Defense Against the Dark Arts, but she is trying to learn it for her future career. She finds History of Magic boring, but that doesn't seem to be unusual.
History: Willow was born to a Muggle-born witch mother and a Muggle father who met after an unfortunate Muggle-baiting incident where her mother had to modify her father's memory (and remove a cursed watchband that got stuck to his wrist). Her father is a doctor, and her mother works for the Ministry of Magic Her older two siblings have already graduated Hogwarts. Willow is very much a Daddy's girl -- she thinks medicine is one of the most noble things someone could do. She almost didn't want to go to Hogwarts, until her mother persuaded her that the magical needed medical personnel as much as the Muggle world did.
Comments? Questions? Cries for my head? I should post this to
oc_analysis, but that always seemed like more of a fanfic-character place. Dang, I wish there was a profile help community somewhere.
