So, those of you who read my LJ regularly know my little brother has high-functioning autism. He's also going into high school next year. So Mom, Dad, his special ed teacher, the high shcool special ed teacher (who knows our family thanks to working wiht me with the Aspergers thing), his math teacher and another high shcool teacher who is a friend of the family sit down to discuss his schedule next year. Ben's math and current special ed teachers want him to be put in Extended Algebra (a two year algebra I course) next year, as he is not the best at math (he's a low B - high C student with the help he gets from Mom and Dad now, and Mom won't be able to help him much next year, as she has forgotten all the algebra she learned.). The HS special ed teacher suggested doing that, then seeing how he's doing, and possibly have him finish the second year over the summer, so he cna get into the normal high shcool math sequence as a sophmore. Dad's Not Happy abotu this, as he is worried that putting Ben in Extended Algebra will hinder his attempts to go to a four-year school, as he won't take precalculus as a high schooler. In fact, judging from Mom's email, Dad acted rather immaturly at the meeting. -_- Dad wants Ben to take regular Algebra, and, if he has problems, switch to Extended Algebra. Mom's worried that that will a) be a pain to schedule, and b) will cause Ben to freak out -- the kid is stubborn as all heck when it comes to things, and he's not quite used to dealing with things he precieves as failures.

I really don't know what to think.
