This is gonna go up on [livejournal.com profile] little_details when I get home -- I'm worried I'm missing some obvious source on Google.

Okay, so one of the MCs in my writing is going to be a police officer in a small city in the Midwest USA (Lincoln, Nebraska) chosen by the virtue that I lived there for a while, in roughly the modern-day. It's concerning me that what I know of police procedure I gained via TV and that I really should learn how things are actually done. So any websites I could look at?

And here's something more specific )

Note to self: Next time, check the page length of all papers before printing. Especially review articles. Regardless of how much you want to read them for fun. (What? I think 'Evolution of a Habitable Planet' sounds like an awesome paper, regardless of the fact it's gonna help me give a kickass talk on how the Earth got its water)

Further note to self: Do not worry about NaNo in October. Especially since the whole point of doing urban fantasy was to pick a setting you know -- don't do that and then hyperventilate over realism. That's why the Internet created Wikipedia and millions of bored people to answer questions in exchange for useless astronomy trivia.

(Seriously, my classes shouldn't be inspiring me to worldbuild in a SF kind of way when I decided I wanted to do urban fantasy. At this rate, I'm gonna end up chucking my protagonists through a plot hole and change the urban fantasy until an epistolary novel about traveling the multiverse -- or I might just switch at this point.)
