Con Report: AnimeIowa 2003

crisi83 and yuuo weren't ready until 6. Par for the course.
FRIDAY:
I wore my Integra costume this day, and discovered my wig had died -- later on I spotted a Chii cosplayer with the same wig, and decided it was the company. I went to the AMV discussion panel, which didn't go well, as the pnaleists canceled (the fandubbers stepped in) and the AV equipment didn't work very well. About this time, I decided my wig was a lost cause and disposed of it. Then I spent an hour trying to get my artwork in the art show -- the computer decided to crash just as they were registering me, which made me miss lunch. After that, the dealer's room opened, so I went in there and spent money. My purchases are down below. I discovered that wearing a jacket and long pants into a room with that many people is not fun. After that, I went back into my room and changed into my Van Fanel costume -- it was cooler. I went to the Cel Painting workshop (and made a spiffy Sailor Moon cel) and discovered a new art form I wanted to try. Then I went to a game show-style contest and got to play Anime Wheel of Fortune (Category: Before and After, Puzzle: MEGATOKYO_O_. Can you solve the puzzle? The guy ahead of me couldn't.) Then I went to bed.
SATURDAY:
Got up early to put on Zelgadis makeup. Had to paint on rocks instead of liquid latex. Wig was better behaved then Integra's though. Tried to go to AMV contest, but it was postposed -- to the same time as the cosplay setup. We used the extra time to write our cosplay script. Then I went to the Inking Workshop withuncreativity and Sara and discovered another vital art supply I need. I then went to a webcomics panel (run by Studio Antithesis) and had an ephiphany and deicded I wanted to start CGing my comic. Wandered around for a while until i went back to my room to touch up my makeup, and then we went to the cosplay setup.
THE COSPLAY:
Saw a lot of amazing costumes -- a girl dressed as Shiva, the FFX-2 girls, Sora and Riku of Kingdom Hearts, several Vampire Hunter Ds and Trigun casts, and a skit involving Bill Gates and Chii. Came to the conclusion that we had no shot in hell of winning and we should just settle for laughs. Here was our skit:
::Aeris (Sara) enters, selling flowers::
::Celena (Yuuo) enters, stumbling, and bumps into Aeris::
Aeris: Oh, I'm sorry. Are you all right?
Celena: Brother?
Aeris: Are you looking for your brother? Who is he?
Celena: Al-
Aeris: *interrupting* Wait, you're- that person *point in the audience* hasn't seen Escaflowne yet. You can't go spoiling it for him!
Celena: You've got to be kidding me. Escaflowne hasbeen out how long? Everybody knows I'm Dil--
Aeris: That's a spoiler!
Celena: And what about you? You're--
Aeris: Spoiler!
::Zelgadis (me) enters, looking around::
Zel: I've been a lot of backwater places, but this place...
Celena: *walks up to him* YOU!
Zel: *points to self, confused*
Celena: Tell me about yuorself or I'll crush you like a butterfly.
Zel: How do i always find the violent women? Fine. I'm Zelgadis Greywords, and I'm a chimera created by my gra--
Aeris: Stop that!
Celena: THAT'S IT. MY NAME IS CELENA SCHEZAR, DILANDAU ALBATOU, COMMANDER OF THE DRAGONSLAYERS, SISTER TO ALLEN SCHEZAR. I AM DEATH INCARNATE AND I'M THE LAST THING YOU'LL SEE IN YOUR AFTERLIFE.
Zel: *elbows past them* That's nothing. You know the mysterious Naga the White Serpent? You know all those hints dropped about her real identity. Well, I'm gona tell yuo who she really is... right here, right now. Naga the White Serpent is... *points to self* me. *does a Naga laugh and runs off stage*
Aeris: This is what I get for selling my soul to Disney.
Then I had fun getting a pound of makeup off my face after the cosplay.
SUNDAY: Wore Van costume again. Got up early for the Character Design talk, but just got a refresher on basic drawing instead. We then packed the van and chcked out, and I went to the Art Auction while Crisi and Yuuo went to see the rest of the AMVs -- the contest was cut short by the simulcast of the cosplay.
Crisi sold a sculpture of Shigure, Ayame and Hatori from Fruits Basket for $10 and Uncreativity sold an Excel Saga Pen-And-Ink for $13. I sold nothing. I then went to pick up the artwork I had put in, make one last trip the the dealer's room, and left. We got back to Lincoln just late enough for me to miss half my floor meeting.

I'm still trying to figure out who sings the song I'm listening to. It's a different version of Kane's Image Song from Lost Universe, but it's not Kane singing -- I have a version with Kane singing. I want to say it's Yasounori Matsumoto (Gourry from Slayers and the Spreader of Darkness (a human incarnation of Dark Star) from Lost Universe) but I want Yuuo to confirm it -- she can spot Yasounori's voice from 20 paces.
