beccastareyesSorry for the boring subject, but I was feeling sentimental. I leave for Ithaca tomorrow at noon.
I just realized yesterday that the last 7 years of my life have probably been the happiest I've ever been. But middle school sucked, so that doesn't say much. And I'm leaving. I'm scared as all hell to be living several hundred miles away from anyone who knows me as more than 'one of over a dozen people I met over a weekend in March' and a thousand miles away from all of my real-life friends and immediate family.
Everyone, I want to thank you all for being there for me. I actually feel sappy enough to list names.
Sara, thank you for being my first best-friend, for being someone to talk to in high school study halls, for introducing me to fanfiction, for loaning me books, and for being a good friend.
Cassie, thanks for being another good friend. Thanks for letting me crash at your house for more times than I can possibly remember, for being one of the peopel I would let pick my writing apart, knowing you would do a damn good job, for being a fun person to talk about worldbuilding with, and for being my anime crack dealer. And Babylon 5 -- love ya long time for showing me that.
Amanda, thanks for being my first science-based friend, for being another person who would always ask me the hard questions about things, for being my first GM and introducing me to roleplaying, and for putting up wiht my first attempt at GMing. You also were the first friend I ever had to say goodbye to and I kind of miss talking to you.
Kim, you gave my fantasy loving side a kick in the rear, and you also got me vaguly thinking about conlanging. You were a good lab partner in Advanced Chem and a good person to eat supper with in CPN. You also provided hours (probably days cumulative) of entertainment in the form of AIM roleplay. YOu were also fun to go fabric shopping with.
Katie, you were just out there -- a fun person to talk to, because you had a weird sense of humor and a devious mind. You also are a very crafty person in the other sense -- I still have the doll you made me. Even after the Big Fight in sophmore year, you took the courage to call me up after a bit (in November, I recall), even though you didn't know if we still were mad at you. You are one of my bravest friends, and you are welcome on my couch any time.
Heather, you were the first friend in college, thus proving that I could make friends on my own, that high school wasn't a fluke. You are an overall fun person to talk to, with an awesome sense of humor. You were my artist friend for a while -- the one I bithced about drawing hands, and talked about webcomics.
Jennie, you are an absolute fun perosn to be around, because, like me, you have that 'I wanna do everything in fandom' attitude. We also usually like the same series, which helps. You have a very good head on your shoulders, and curiosity that rivals mine. You also also the kind of student any sane teacher would love to hvae in a classroom, because you don't stop asking questions until you get it. Goign back to college after dropping out also wins courage points form me, but you already knew that.
Potter, Squall, Rob, Dylan, the High Shcool Girls, and all you other Otaku Jinrui people that I can't remember the names of. You guys made Friday nights awesome, and proved that we really can pull things together.
AJ and Cece -- we were sort of the Three Musketeers of the astronomy resource room. So much so that, with two now alumni and one studying abraod, the department is suddenly shorthanded. Thanks for being my study group, my benting space for students, and my friends. May your citations be many, and your research money flow like water.
Dr Gaskell, thanks for being my mentor and putting up with the fact that I procrastinate far too much, and otherwise have a bunch of really bad habits that I need to work out of my system.
I need to remember there's always the Internet.
