Well, as most of you know, I live in Nebraska, where college footbal is second only to Christianity as the most popular religion -- and, believe you me, I could argue the point for it being #1.
Normally, this means, I stay in my dormroom during game days.
But this time, I told my mother I'd watch my sister in the Cornhusker Marching Band play. Since I cannot get tickets (nor want to pay for them, as it's too late for me to get student tickets), I could only go the the bandpractices and part of their pre-game routine that takes place outside the stadium.
I got up at 7:30 for Jenn's practice at 9. I blame th early hour for me not remembering UNL Football Game=Wear Red. Wel, thankfully the opposing team has such a bright and ugly color (orange) that I would never wear it by accident.
Things looked normal on the way to the stadium for the band practice. It was fuller than usual, because the opposing team had brought the full band, and, after their practice, they took to the stands for a bit to watch the UNL band play. Mom says that, no matter where they're from, band kids support one another.
On the way out, when Mom, her best friend, and myself got out of the game, we just saw a sea of red wandering around downtown. Kinda scary. After lunch, we wandered back to the music building, where the band was going to give a concert, then march down to the stadium. Mom said it was fuller than usual. See, it was a special game day -- they had invited all the old football alums back. They were to march to the stadium behind the band. So, that meant you had a lot of half-drunk idiots who didn't know what was going on with the band, and who got in the way, so the march was more of a walk. The band does well, though -- they're certainly better than the football team, in my biased opinion.
Anyway, that's not the scary part. The scary part is, after I woke from my nap, I turned on the game and have it in the background.
