Yesterday I picked up a new dresser and bookcase from Patrick, a grad student who is two years ahead of me, just defended his thesis, and is off to Puerto Rico for a postdoc at Arecibo. (Patrick does near-Earth asteroid radar -- so he's the guy who will probably know first if we're all going to die by an asteroid hitting.) Patrick's a neighbor, so we ended up carrying both over to my apartment. Then I had to disassemble my old dresser -- for something that was held together mostly by gravity and my refusal to touch it, this was difficult -- move the new dresser into my room, and then move books around on my bookcases. The plus side is that between the four bookcases, one DVD rack, and two shelves built into my desk, plus the fact that some books are in my office (and not at home -- mostly textbooks and reference), I now might have enough shelving (for now), though I think I might need some more bins for stuff. The minus side is that I can't lift my arms without pain.
After this, expect the Great Sale post, once I go through and see what it is that I actually use. I know there's some FMA DVDs that I seem to have two copies of.
(Apparently my advisor (who is also on Patrick's committee) offered Patrick space in his basement for between 'lease runs out' and 'post doc starts'. Patrick said he was tempted to take it just to say that he lived in Dr. N's basement while finishing his thesis.)
