Cat Post

My mother has two cats, Peppy and Geno. Geno is the older one, a part-Siamese shelter cat that we've had for a decade and named after a video game character in an effort to get Ben interested in the cat -- his original name was Whoop-de-doo. Peppy is half Geno's age, pushes him around to no end, and is named after Pepe le Pew, because of the way he walks with his tail up -- he was named Batman by the shelter people because of his ears, but he really isn't a Batman at all. We got Peppy after our old cat, Lily, passed away from pancreatic cancer -- well, she was euthanized, but because she was in terrible pain from the cancer. Peppy is one of the few pets Ben loves to no end -- the two roughhouse all the time, which is weird in a cat.



Peppy says hello to me. We don't really get along -- I move too heavily, and once owned a parakeet that I wouldn't let Peppy chase, but Peppy doesn't like most people. He does tolerate me, which is nice.


Peppy has a bear. Every day, when he thinks no one is home, he carries it up the stairs in his mouth, then sits on it, kneading it with his claws and meowing loud enough to wake everyone up. Mom thinks this is some kind of weird thing from being separated too early from his mother.

Peppy has a love of baskets -- he'll rub his paws against them whenever he finds one. This goes well with the love of cats for sitting in boxes/bags/etc., except Ben doesn't like him sitting in the basket that stores his portable game stuff.


Peppy really loves enclosed things. Sadly, I didn't get any pictures of him sitting in the sink for Cats in Sinks. Wonder if this counts.


Geno is getting older, so he's sleeping more. Normally he curls up next to me as I read (when I'm home), but he loves sitting under the tree, since it was Lily's old spot. Peppy is not allowed near the tree thanks to the Great Christmas Accident. This is also why we no longer have a live tree.

I keep looking at that picture of Geno and thinking he's having visions of catnip-plums dancing in his head while he waits for "Sandy Claws."
