beccastareyesBrowsing the mm.org forums, in the Arguments section, I found a post decrying the overuse of kawaii by fangirls. Seeing a gem, I clicked on it and found this post, made by one of the forum goers...
Bleh. I only use japanese that _is_ in the series I'm writing about. Whoever doesn't know the meaning of Ginzuishou or Nijiizuishou, is either not a Sailor Moon fan or a dubbie. (Hey this is arguments so :-P to all dubbies.)
The poster did go on to say if you were going to use fangirl Japanese, spell it right, and to mention scaring the mundanes by belting out "Cruel Angel Thesis"
So I posted this:
Forgive my ignorance, [name ommited], as I am not a Sailor Moon fan -- I saw it on Cartoon Network in the dawn of my anime-fanishness and read a bit of the manga. But, according to my dictionary ginzuishou means silver crystal. Similarly, nijiizuishou[/i> means rainbow crystal. Since this seems to be a case where the dubbers actually managed a fair translation -- and goodness knows, in Sailor Moon, that doens't happen that often -- what's the point of using ginzuishou if it doens't add anything to the meaning of the fic? Well, besides saying '1 4m t3h l337 BSSM f4n!!!!111 Subs0rz r0ckz0rz!!!111 Dubb13s R t3h l4m0rz n00bs!!111' Well, perhaps a bit nicer than that.
Personally, I like to save my brief uses of Japanese when an English word cannot be fitted so neatly into the concept of the Japanese word.
So... opinions? Am I being too holier-than-thou? Or is this a case of stupid fanboys. (Yes, poster in question is male)
