beccastareyesI'm defending in the conference room we give seminars in. I've given a lot of talks in that room: informal lunch talks and practice conference talks for the other grad students and class presentations when I was in classes. It's amazing how easy it is to view this as just another one of those.
Which is probably the intent of making grad students do all that public speaking. By now, even when we have computer and/or projector problems or I babble or get grilled, I know that nothing bad will happen, though I'll need a sit-down afterward from the effort.
