Thursday D&D Game:
Oct. 7th, 2023 12:46 pmSince this is my first post, a bit more of background for the rest of you. This is using a Zelda homebrew for D&D, and the Breath of the Wild map, albeit in a different era than BotW.
Our Heroes
Shakudo: My character. A Goron smith, sent on an errand down the mountain for the Hyrule Royal Family, and discovering that his destiny lies at something other than mastering his craft.
Angela: Cousin to the current Princess Zelda, via a younger sibling that married into a neighboring kingdoms’s royal family. Apparently the emergency backup Hero, as she is able to wield the Master Sword.
Blade: A Sheikah warrior and Sage of the Wind.
Nat: A Hylian adopted as the daughter of the Great Fairies, inheriting much of their magic.
Oban: This generation’s male Gerudo, a wizard dealing with the stigma of a certain prior male Gerudo.
Events Thus Far
Hyrule has been at war for nearly two decades with a neighbor to the southwest, beyond the Gerudo Desert. Princess Zelda — a child when the war started — leads the races of Hyrule against the enemy Sephirans. However, recently, a more supernatural threat has increased the number and ferocity of monster attacks. Zelda fears that the ancient evil Hyrule and its Royal Daughters guard against is rising, and there is no Hero in sight. Instead, destiny points to five people who happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Our Heroes have gathered three of the six sage’s medallions: Fire, Forest and Water. At the Forest Temple, they encountered the mysterious Ghirahim, who claimed to be seeking the resurrection of the ancient evil. Around the Fire Temple, they ran into the Twili, beings sealed away from Hyrule long ago; both hostile and a defector who claimed she was working against the Queen, who wanted to invade the surface world. On the way out of the Water Temple, the group learned that the Zola, another aquatic species of Hyrule, were being manipulated by hostile magic users, linked to the desert. Finally, the Sephiran seer Chasca, who had defected to the Hylian side of the war for her own protection, communicated that the heroes would need to find three individuals to have the power they needed.
This Week
Our heroes had just saved Hateno village from a Moblin attack… and an unexpected white lynel that nearly killed Shakudo and Angela. The villagers were grateful, and pointed our heroes in the direction of the windmill keeper, Ralera. Ralera was originally from Luralin village, and helped with deciphering a bit of Chasca’s prophecy, a woman who might be referred to as the ‘Goddess of the Ocean’, who was an omen of death in battle or storm when seen. She suggested that her father, the headman of Luralin would be the person to ask.
Meanwhile, a woman who had helped our heroes before, Marin, has returned to Hateno to yell at farmers who had been neglecting crop rotation in the name of selling grain to the army for the war effort. Marin may also be one of the women of Chasca’s prophecy, but has been resistant to the heroes getting her involved. As Marin’s birth mother bore some stigma, the villagers had been blaming Marin for the monster attacks. Shakudo managed to use the intimidating factor of being a giant rock to diffuse the conflict, while Angela — herself the princess of an agricultural kingdom — backed Marin up and used her connection to Princess Zelda to get the farmers to follow better practices. The villagers also took our heroes’ certainty as a sign the war would be over soon, and that they should be trying to return to a more stable equilibrium.
While this was happening, Oban, experiencing a new sensitivity to magic, noted a strange signature in the area — a cold and dark presence — that followed Marin as she left the village. The party followed this until they reached Marin’s home with her adopted mother (a bear). Nat used her ability to turn into a fairy to scout, and immediately told the rest of the party to get in there. Blade teleported himself and Shakudo in, while Oban, Angela and Nat walked in.
A Twili noble had been talking to Marin. Apparently she was enquiring around people the party had worked with to understand what was up. Conversation revealed her to be the Twili Queen Midna, who identified that the previous Twili the party had talked to, The Repentant, was also a member of the Royal Family. Midna said that The Repentant was forging orders from Midna to start trouble between the Twili and the Light World. While Midna expressed a wish to restore contact between her people and the Light World, she had no wish to invade; she believed The Repentant was trying to stage a coup by making Midna look like a warmonger.
Midna noted that while The Repentant might claim Midna is after the Triforce, she had no desire to claim it; she even noted she knew where the Triforce of Wisdom was, but had not tried to claim it. Blade noted that this was not a surprise, since he also knew that.
But is the Triforce of Wisdom where Blade thinks it is? What is up with Marin? Will our heroes get to the coast and also locate the other three Temples for their medallions? Let’s find out next time.
