This is what I get for being morally indignant and anti-stupidity.
Another day, another Letter to the Editor celebrating the ban of partial-birth abortions... Don't get me wrong, ending an unwanted, but otherwise healthy, pregnancy seems like an unpleasant practice, to say the least. However, I can't help asking the writers of these letters, and our society in general, a few questions. Why can an adult get an abortion with only a few questions asked, but an adult cannot be sterilized without a psychiatric evaluation? Why are family-planning organizations, like Planned Parenthood, attacked for one service provided, but all but ignored for the other, less morally objectionable, services they offer? What's the point of preaching abstinence-only sex education in the schools when the students who need to prevent pregnancy and STDs the most don't share the values required to make abstinence work? Why are many parents adopting children form overseas when there are children in the States that need homes? And why do people who claim to belong to a religion that stresses helping one's fellow man do so much to make a bad practice illegal but do nothing to help those forced to turn to that practice in desperation?
