Dec. 15th, 2003 08:48 pmI don't know why, but I feel like I'm trying to pick a fight right now... I've already posted somewhat caustic replies at some of the messgae boards I've been to:
1. Can we stop harping on things BESM Slayers has done that are correct as far as the first season knows, but incorrect as far as NEXT, TRY, the OAVS, the manga, and the novels go? The publisher has already said they couldn't include any information from outside the TV series, and that the first book was going to include only the stuff from the first season. Don't get nitpicky about things like Gourry's background. No, we don't know much about it from the TV series. Thus, fans speculate.
2. Yes, some people go overboard about keeping things like Original Characters and AUs out of fanfiction, but that doesn't mean you should go waving your fanfic around saying, "Look at how many OCs I have and how much I changed form the series! Aren't I creative? You'll never get me, canon whores -- I piss you off and all I do is laugh! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" You just lowered my opinion of you a lot for being immature and somewhat a troll, so, regardless of whether your fic was worth reading, I won't read it now. Complaining that your original characters is the reason your fic got only 8 reviews is also faulty logic -- look at the Haryr Potter or LotR sections of ff.net. Your average blantent Sue fic has a lot of reviews.
3. I'd rather see people who've only seen the dub of an anime use only the dub names. Usually it's not as simple as doing the Find/Replace function -- bad edited dubs can modify personalities. You don't write a fic from episode summaries and you don't write a Pokemon fic with Kojiro and Musashi when all you've seen are Jessie and James. Dub names may make you look like an ignorant fangirl, but an original-name fic when it's clear you watch the edited dub only make you look like an pretentious ignorant fangirl.
Bring on the trolls!
