On Star Wars and Fanfiction
Dec. 16th, 2003 08:18 pmThe NJO books tick me off and I finally could put my finger on why.
There comes a time for the 'Happily Ever After' for the charcters -- this portion of their lives is over, no going back now. RotJ is a turning point in Star Wars -- basically, it legitimizes the Rebellion as an actual government, and a lot of the EU reflects that. Then NJO comes along, and all of a sudden Luke and Co. are fighting for their freedom again -- though this time they have the home field advantage, but the guys they're fighting have all of these cheeseball powers (like Force-immunity, and m4d l33t biomancry sk1llz) to keep the New Republic from wiping the floor with them.
Honestly, it's like all of those Escaflowne fics where suddenly Zaibach is the big bad again, despite the fact the Emperor's dead, and I'm sure Asturia and its allies would NOT let Zaibach have a large millitary any more.
And now I want to write Escaflowne political drama based on 20th century history. -_- Stop me.
