Dec. 19th, 2003 04:47 pmIs it just me or are people getitng worse at recognizing when original characters are over-the-top? I belong to a fanfiction reviewing yahoo-group, and I just had to tell a guy his Original Character needed to be cut back. This OC was named after the guy, was from a species that only had two canon survivors, knew three different schools of magic (one of which was only known by his teacher) and could summon, and could fight physically. He killed the big bad that killed his master with one spell. The story was in first person, and the guy and the OC shared a name. And this guy expected that this was goodfic.
Not to mention the half-Valar/half-Ent who could seduce a Elf/Human hybrid. Or the Yu-gi-oh OC who had more friends on the cast than most canon characters. (both from
oc_analysis)
And all of these were characters people at least thought might be realistic.
Have my standards just become that high? Or are people getting worse?
