What is your favorite video game pairing? Link/Zelda, the Legend of Zelda
I'm not a big real-life shipper. I mean, I could give the same answer I did for Day 10 (:: waves to all her friends in relationships::) but I don't feel like repeating myself. So... topic change!
There are plenty of media besides 'television' and 'books', even if I start grouping anime/cartoons in with TV and graphic novels with books. Even if I fold movies into TV, I still get video games.
Ocarina of Time was the fist video game I owned. I later appropriated the SNES and bought a used copy of Earthbound after ours broke, and later got Pokemon, but Zelda was the first. We had A Link to the Past because Mom had rented Earthbound for Jenn and Ben and me*, we adored it. Then, when Ben broke the SNES, we ended up with Zelda because it was the only game that came with the SNES that we didn't own and the overhead view reminded Ben of Earthbound. Or maybe it was the other way around -- we got ALttP for the 'we own Mario and Donkey Kong' and got Earthbound because 'hey, overhead camera angle'.
Anyway, I liked Zelda -- I was discovering I liked story-based games in general. Jenn liked Zelda too, which was good, since she was actually good at it. I think I could usually manage to get through the first dungeon in any given Zelda game, but Jenn got to the Dark World on ALttP and beat OoT**. And Majora's Mask. (So did Ben.) When I moved away from home and the Nintendo 64 (the SNES came with me to the dorms), I didn't think much more of Zelda.
Thenyuuo got me back into the fandom, and I went out and got Phantom Hourglass, since all I had was a DS. And Ben got a Wii, so I asked if I could have his Game Cube if I could show him how to play Game Cube games on the Wii. I promptly went out and bought Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, and managed to find the special edition of Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask for the Game Cube.
I picked Link and Zelda was my favorite video game couple, though really I have four versions here, since the six games I've played has had four Links and four Zeldas (Phantom Hourglass and Majora's Mask are the only direct sequels).
Ocarina of Time!Link/Zelda drew me in by wondering what Zelda spent the seven years Link was asleep doing. I started to wonder about how one reconnects to someone after seven years -- especially since, in Link's case, he didn't actually live those seven years. Also enjoy playing with Zelda's perceptions of gender.
Wind Waker!Link/Zelda... well, it's Zelda as the Dread Pirate Tetra, who eventually founds a kingdom after having adventures on the high seas with Link. See, my love of couples of awesome people having adventures.
Spirit Tracks!Link/Zelda. Don't feel this one that much (though it is directly stated this Zelda is Tetra's granddaughter, which makes me wonder if she was WW!Link's grandkid as well, which... well, the one surviving member of Tetra's pirates notes that WW!Link looks a lot like ST!Link). But, it's still cute.
Twilight Princess!Link/Zelda: I kind of like this, since it's probably the only one where I get a sense of Link and Zelda as adults. He's also totally twitterpaited by her.
* Based totally on the 'it has an oversized box, so let's check it out'.
** I did help her find her way through the effing Water Temple.
