Day 4 - The pairing with the most chemistry? Lina/Gourry (Slayers)

I'm defining this as two people I just love to see on camera together and who can easily steal a scene. It's a romantic chemistry, in my opinion, but it's also that they play off each other so well. I suspect it's one reason I enjoy the TV series (and novels, and the manga series that weren't adapted to TV) more than the OAVs, because of lack of Gourry.
I guess part of my thing is that I like partnerships where the 'will they or won't they?' UST overwhelms the plot, because one of two things will happen:
1. They will, and then the show ends or jumps the shark
2. Creators bait and tease the fans for-ever and then the show ends unexpectedly and fans riot.
Somehow, Lina and Gourry side-step this for me, in that I have a sense of their relationship as an easy progression. A bit like they are walking up a hill together and only when you look back do you realize how high they've gotten, and only rare senses of them climbing a step, or even scrambling up a cliff face. They just sort of comfortably fit together, and it's kind of how I see them becoming an actual couple. Amelia might not approve of the lack of a dramatic love confession, and maybe it would take a bit of a step up to get them to consciously realize it, but I find it a lot more appealing than many fictional partnerships that don't stay platonic.

Date: 2010-09-14 02:22 am (UTC)Seriously, I could watch Lina and Gourry go around the world for ever and seriously believe they were a married couple.
And part of me would think it would be hilarious if they hammered things out offscreen, meet up with Zel & Amelia again, adventure around for a while then off-hand someone (probably Gourry) says something that reveals them as a couple, and, when everyone looks shocked, he's all 'what, you guys didn't notice?'.
